Puzzle-o-Maniac!

Sudoku (or Su Doku) is a numbers game that has become very popular in the UK in the last year. Most UK newspapers now have the puzzles in their back pages. This online Su Doku solver is able to solve most of them. Read the notes to the right to start and play sudoku online.

Comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome, especially if you find a puzzle this applet cannot solve.

How to use: The arrow keys on your keyboard will move the red square across the board. Press the number keys to type a number in. Once enough numbers have been entered to solve the puzzle, a "Solved!" message will appear. You can then continue completing the puzzle yourself. Should you get stuck and require a hint, the "Hint" button will give you a new number highlighted in blue.

Problems: If the java applet does not appear in your browser it will probably be because you don't have the latest java runtime plugin (J2SE 1.5.0 end user). If you run Firefox then a link will appear to automatically download the plugin, otherwise you can get it from here.
If the red square doesn't move when the arrow keys are pressed and the number keys don't enter any numbers then you need to press the "Clear" button (or the board) to give it focus.

This is version 1.0. The GUI will be made to look a bit better and maybe a puzzle generator will be added in due course.

Known issues

The applet takes a few seconds to load. If it takes longer, check that your computer is able to view java applets.
